Bits About Us: Going South Leg

Nano Nervous

Nano in crate

Nano's preferred spot at the beginning of the trip was in his crate anchored to the bench back seat. It was a comfy place, but Nano was very anxious at this point. A lot of shaking and panting. We were feeling pretty bad for him.

Peter & Buds Gone Local

High School Buddies

This is what happens when people go to Phoenix. From left, this is Howie, Neil, and Peter (in case you didn’t recognize him). It's Neil’s birthday and they're out to celebrate in a biker bar.   😳

Celebrating Neil’s Birthday

High School Buddies

Here they are being regular! This is three of Peter’s high school buddies. The full group meets once a year, usually in the summer, to party and (these days) compare their aches of aging.   😂

Note the cake! That’s Red Velvet from Betty Boo Bakery in Coolidge, Arizona. Avery offered to get cake; Peter said "if it’s not a problem." There was quite a detour including tracking Betty down at a state fair where she brought out four slices. Yay for Betty!

Hug From a Friend

Avery and Carol

This is Avery’s friend Carol. Carol and Bob were Avery’s colleagues at the University of Calgary who moved to Sidney several years before Avery and Peter moved to Victoria. Their place on Winding Dessert Drive in Tucson is beautiful. You can see the view of Sagaru Cacti in their backyard on the home page.  😍

Sister Chat

Three sisters

Avery and her sisters, Jane and Laura. Avery is at Earp and James Hitching Post (aka Mudville), and it is cold out! The sisters try to talk every Saturday evening, 5 pm Victoria time, 6 pm Edmonton time (Jane). These are treasured catch up times, and generally everyone has a glass of wine.

You Gotta Have the Gear

Nano with Backpack

We finally cave in to Nano's pleas that he carry his own treats and water. Found this gear at a great store: D'Ogee’s Place. Visit if you're ever in Tucson!

D’Ogees Place website.

Opal Open

Opal van with doors and awning open

Here’s Opal in her resting position! Open awning with lots of room for two chairs, a table, and Nano’s bed. Bikes on the extendable rack out back. Front chairs in the van facing into the living area. Nano and Avery (hat not for sun ... bad hair day!) relaxing; thanks Opal!

Nano Mellows

Mellow Nano

Can you tell he’s more than a bit beloved? In Tucson, Avery visited a vet and we got some (new) meds, which worked miraculously. Since then, Nano's been mellow in the car, and he's adapted so he often doesn’t need the medication. We ALL feel better!
